Trying my best to live well and also thoughtfully and kindly towards others and the earth. I get obsessed with various projects, blogging about plastic and other environmental issues at the moment, and don't give up until something more interesting comes along. A newbie runner who blogged about my successes and failures of marathon training (http://www.coloringthevoid.com/bethruns/index.htm), I found myself without an obsession while recovering from surgery for several weeks. That's when I heard a heartbreaking news story that woke me up to the problems of plastics in our environment, and a new passion and blog was born: Fake Plastic Fish (http://www.fakeplasticfish.com). I've been blogging away on Fake Plastic Fish for over a year now, collecting and tallying my weekly plastic waste and writing about plastic-free alternatives and ways we can do better. Sometimes I succeed. Sometimes I fail. Sometimes I'm a lot preachier than I mean to be, and afterwards I feel like a jerk. Really, I'm no different from anyone else who cares about the planet. Since April of this year, I've also been spearheading the Take Back The Filter campaign (http://www.takebackthefilter.org) to urge Clorox, maker of Brita water filters in North America, to take back and recycle them as the original Brita company does in Europe. Please stop by both sites and let me know what you think!
