fI discovered Ode at a small independent bookstore in Wisconsin a few years and continue to be amazed and inspired at the generosity and huge hearts that reach across all kinds of borders. I teach history and English at a very small independent school in Illinois and am guided by the words of educator Maxine Greene who talks about developing the capacity among students to believe that "things can be otherwise." A believer in what U.S. President Abraham Lincoln called 'better angels of our nature' and what U.S. Senator Barak Obama calls the 'audacity of hope,' I think education across borders could be an important avenue to the possibilities Ode talks about. I'm interested in conversation with other teachers and ways we might link our students through the vehicle of Ode Magazine in productive dialogue.
