I have been involved in Africa since 1962, as a work camper with Operation Crossroads Africa in Kenya, teacher of new teachers in Zambia, partner with Kenyan friend who founded Crossroads Springs Instiute for AIDS orphans in Hamisi, Kenya (named for the legacy of the 1962 US/Canadian/Kenyan work camp there), work project participant to Hamisi in 2004, and fund raiser in North America for Crossroads Springs Institute. I am also a public school board member and have been a volunteer for American Field Service among other things.

I cannort just stand by and watch, once I have become aware of an injustice (poverty, barriers to education). I believe with Nkosi, a small South African boy with HIV/AIDS, that we must "Do all you can, with what you have, in the place where you are, in the time you have." (quoted in his friend Jim Wooten's book We are All the Same)
