Top 10 Universal Values
Which 10 universal values can we extract from religions and common sense? Which values do we have in common?
I’m not sure if we can find 10 values we all share, but I would like to start with 4 values I’m very positive about:
1. Equality; all human being have equal rights and should be treated equal.
2. Honesty; being sincere about your actions, say what you do and do what you say.
3. Respect; all life matters and it’s important to listen and find what people share.
4. Responsibility; you are in charge of your own life and relations with others.

Universal Values
Human values are a set of emotional rules people follow to help make decisions in life. Human values are the core from which we operate or react. Examples for human values are Honor and Self-actualization.
Where people live together they share values. Societies have values that are shared among many of the participants in that culture. An individual's values typically are largely, but not entirely, in agreement with their culture's values.
Values are related to the norms of a culture, but they are more general and abstract than norms. Norms are rules for behavior in specific situations, while values identify what should be judged as good or evil. Norms come from values and can be found in the law.
We have many different cultures in our world and they have different sets of human values. For instance Honor which is common in Eastern countries and Self-actualization which is common in the Western countries. Big differences in values can be a reason of war.
Instead of looking at differences we can focus on the values we share. When all people and cultures over the world share a human value like Honesty, we can call Honesty a Universal Value. Universal values will help us see what we share.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights contain already some Universal Values. A pity not all countries have agreed upon this document. Maybe it’s easier for people and cultures when we start small and specific with singular Universal Values.
