What can the West learn from the rest?

So here’s a question for you: What can the West learn from the rest? Or maybe even better: What should the leading Western world learn from the rest of the world?

It's quite clear that Western culture - or at least the Western economic model - is dominating the process of globalization. Big corporations dictate the shopping behavior and the aspirations of billions of people. Hollywood is reaching the furthest corners of the planet. Money is the primary driving force behind this globalization. As a result other important aspects of life tend to suffer. Humanity seems to be is losing many kinder and better solutions to many problems that have worked for centuries.

But exactly what are we losing? What are we sacrificing at the altar of making ever more money?

Let’s explore alternatives. What is it that the West should learn from other parts of the world? From other cultures? What are examples of better answers found anywhere in the world to social, economical en cultural questions? And how through these answers could the world at large become more balanced, more peaceful, cleaner and healthier?

As Bono said it eloquently: ‘There is a lot more to be learned from Africa than to be taught to Africa.’ The same applies to Asia and to Latin America. There are many places around the globe that are still harboring ancient customs and wise solutions that could be seeds for a better world.

Let’s explore this. Let me know your ideas and suggestions. I’m sure we’ll have an inspiring exchange.
