Reducing HIV in Thailand |
|
Thai politician Mechai Viravaidya describes the creative measures for Thai birth control which grew from the 1970s overpopulation crisis. Methods included "de-sexing" the birth control pill by calling it a "family welfare vitamin" and asking monks to bless contraceptives. Viravaidya discusses his "out-of-the-box" ideas for distributing condoms in Thailand. From McDonalds and hotel minibars to the "cops and rubbers" program, condoms are available everywhere in the Thailand. This program has successfully reduced HIV infections as well as overpopulation.
