Akoha: the world's first 'social reality game'
Akoha's cutting-edge approach to gaming takes advantage of the most sophisticated 3D technology to create the world's most massively multi-player game. Interact with almost 7 billion lifelike characters and practically infinite, perfectly-rendered, real-world objects. When you complete a mission - with pulse pounding, a smile tugging at your lips or perhaps with victory arms - you feel as though you are literally inside the game. Because you are. It's the world's first "social reality game."
The game revolves around altruistic mission cards that you can order online. Each card contains an act of service or social responsibility to complete in the real world ("Give Someone a Book" or "Calculate Your Carbon Footprint"). When you complete the act of service, you explain the game and hand the mission card over to a beneficiary or friend, so they can "play it forward" and start the process all over again.
Each card also contains a "mission ID" that allows you to register the card online. You can leave posts, pictures and video describing how you completed the mission. You can even track the past movement of the card, discovering where it's been and how other people have played it. And of course, you can get points for completing missions and level up.
Akoha's appeal comes from the way it turns our preconceptions about games, service and the internet on their heads. It's a completely non-violent game; it's service for fun. It uses the internet to foster real-world interaction instead of virtual relationships. And Akoha is one amazing opportunity to break out of your comfort zone.
Pass it on.
