FairMail India takes off: A one way ticket out of poverty!

FairMail India has officially opened its doors to teenagers of the Nagwa slum near the holy city of Varanasi, India. 24 teenagers attended the first meeting showing their interest to be trained to become a photographer for FairMail. According to FairMail pioneer Janneke Smeulders "the teenagers are taking it all really seriously, it is about time I start doing the same." For the teenagers participating the camera's and photography training offered are their one way ticket out of poverty. They know that in 2,5 months time the childrens 12 best pictures will be selected to be printen on FairMail postcards earning the photographer of each picture a whopping 5000 rupees. And that is only for the first print as the teenagers will keep receiving 50% of the profits from their postcards. No wonder they take it all so seriously.
