Google thinks green

What do you do after earning degrees at Princeton and Berkeley? Well, you lead the development of Java and service as chief technology officer and corporate executive officer at Sun Microsystems, Inc. of course! ...But after that? You go to Google, become a CEO and reintroduce a vision for green energy. Eric Schmidt is doing just that. As a CEO of Google, he also sits on the Princeton University board of trustees and is a member of the board of directors of Apple, Inc.

Since coming to Google he has focused on building the corporate infrastructure needed to maintain Google's rapid growth as a company with high standards and minimal development cycle times. He has been recognized by the National Academy of Engineering for his work on "the development of strategies for the world's most successful internet search engine company."

For cleaner energy, Schmidt wants to drill. That may sound strange, but Scmidt doesn't want to drill for oil. He believes that capturing natural and clean geothermal energy could help move the United States way from its dependence on petroleum. The proposed project would close $2.7 trillion through 2030, but Schmidt says it would generate $2.1 trillion in energy savings, and, perhaps more valuably, it would create jobs and help flight global warming. But what's next? ...We'll have to wait and see.
