Revisioning: Shamanism and the quantum paradigm

I recently attended the 25th Conference on Shamanism and Alternative Modes of Healing which took place on Labor Day weekend. The conference was founded by the late Dr. Ruth-Inge Heinze, who died in 2007, at the age of 88. Heinze was a long-time faculty member at Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center, and was a close associate of Stanley Krippner. The path of shamanism came to her late in life when she decided to return to school and train as a social anthropologist in her 50's. Eventually her studies led her to explore the psychology of shamanism, shamanism in Southeast Asia, and complimentary and alternate medicine.

In keeping with Ruth's personal exploration, she initiated the conference in San Rafael California 25 years ago to explore a wide range of practices and topics within the shamanic realm and beyond; topics such as reiki, qi gong, yoga, wiccan ritual, spirit mediums, comparative religions, quantum physics, ethno-medicine, bio-physics, psychology and vibrational healing among many others.

The presenters, nearly 40 in total, come from around the globe, often having devoted decades of exploration and research on their topic. They included a Berkeley physicist, who took great pains to condense his years of quantum studies to bring meaning to statements like "matter is not a thing"; An Israeli diamond cutter who researches ancient religious texts to reveal the mystical teachings that are elucidated when the translations are revised with modern linguistics; A Mongolian energy healer that heals 70 to 80% of her terminal cancer patients using bio-energy fields; And a sound healer/ RN and clinical hypnotherapist from just over the hill in Mill Valley, who guided us in a whale song meditation using visualizations of a crystalline water matrix.

As I listened to the fascinating topics being presented, questions ran constantly in the back of my mind: How is it possible to understand the value of these subtle and diverse spiritual practices when we face the most practical needs of survival? And how is it possible that we are surrounded with such deep and resourceful realms in a culture so enveloped by fear and plagued with financial and ethical bankruptcy? There have been times when I have felt the reconciliation of these questions, but I have never found a way to map and explore them.

In this conference the presenter that gave me the key for exploring these questions was the theoretical physicist from Berkeley, George Weissmann. At the heart of his presentation "The Quantum Paradigm and Transformation" was the statement, "Our current Western fundamental paradigm, the so-called Classical Paradigm, which is rapidly becoming dominant globally, is deeply conditioned by the now obsolete world view associated with classical (pre-quantum) physics...The major revolutions in the 20th century physics, Quantum Theory and Relativity, are only now resulting in the emergence of a more comprehensive fundamental paradigm I call the Quantum Paradigm. This Quantum Paradigm is destined to replace the Classical Paradigm, recontextualizing our whole culture. When we embody it, ie. allows it to inform and structure our lived experience, the ensuing transformation may enable us to heal ourselves, and the planet."

Some quantum physicists have warned that this new physics is not the mystical key that many people claim, that it does not transfer well from the level of quarks to our daily experience. And many researchers, such as Rupert Sheldrake, have received deep criticism for their attempts to bring mystical or esoteric beliefs into the fold of modern science. But the door is opened to a new possible paradigm even if we cannot agree on how it looks.

Physicist and author Peter Russell has beautifully outlined the challenges and the possibilities for describing quantum phenomena in relation to consciousness studies in his 2007 Ode article. Even with all of his caveats, the bridge between ancient spiritual understanding and modern physics continues to be built, as Peter explains in his article, Mysterious Light: A Scientist's Odyssey.

"We can now begin to see just how close the parallels are between the light of physics and the light of consciousness. Both are beyond the material world. And both seem to lie beyond space and time. Both seem intrinsically unknowable-at least in the way that everything else is known. And both are absolutes. Every photon of light is an identical quantum of action, and the foundation of every interaction in the universe. The light of consciousness is likewise absolute and invariant. It is the source of every quality that we ever experience. And its essential nature is the same for everyone. Since it is beyond all attributes and identifying characteristics, there is no way to distinguish the light of consciousness in me from the light that shines in you. In other words, how it feels to me to be conscious-that sense of being we label "I"-is the same as how it feels to you. In this sense we are one. We all know the same inner self."

Scientific agreement about a new Quantum Paradigm could drastically shift our lives towards a more spiritual understanding. But those with a thirst to understand need not wait. The ancient spiritual tradition of yoga, among many others explored at the conference, has taught for centuries the practice of transformation by making the breathe, body and ultimately the mind a vessel of clearer perception... beginning a process of awakening to the ultimate source of life. Perhaps we are coming upon a scientific key for understanding all explorations of mystical traditions, but the door is already open for those who choose the portal through which logic has yet to pierce, faith.

Todd,

I appreciate where you are coming from. In my own search for answers I decided to write a book three years ago. In that book I predicted the current state of financial and ethical bankruptcy we are witnessing in today's Wall Street/White House Meltdown. Like an old Jack Nicholson line from a movie "Nobody could handle the truth."

According to the Centre for Public Integrity, we are at our lowest level of trust of government and companies since the 1930's.

It is for that reason I decided to sponsor a public tele-summit on "The Wall Street Meltdown". I hope you and others who read your blog can join us. If you permit me, here is the information on this significant event:

Here is the event notice with access numbers:

"WALL STREET MELTDOWN" - How will it affect North America, your Business, and your Life"?

Wall Street Wreckage

These are profound times. "The Wall Street Wreckage" has been the wake up call not only America needed, but the world needed. In a recent CNN poll over 99% of the participants called for an immediate independent investigation into the meltdown, and that the managers of the companies' gone bankrupt should be subject to criminal charges. The two presidential candidates are now calling for "transparency" on Wall Street. This is simply too late and only represents the fact that desperate times result in desperate measures, including running away from the truth.

What we are witnessing today is the massive karmic repercussions of years of cheating, greed, and fraudulent behaviour on the beltway and on Wall Street.

Zentrepreneurism not only exposes this truth but it offers a solution and a new way of doing business that we believe will manifest over the next hundred years. Three years ago when Allan wrote his book he predicted that we were on the threshold of the events taking place today and that America needed a wake up call. That wake up call has turned into a fire alarm!

Next week, The Jenkins Group and The Book Tree (Allan's publisher) will be launching a massive national media campaign in both the U.S. and Canada alerting the major outlets to Allan's timely book and offering interviews.

In 1989, Charles Lewis left the world of high-profile broadcast journalism to invent the world of what he calls "public-service journalism." Lewis, who was awarded a Macarthur Fellowship in1998, founded the Center for Public Integrity in 1990 to pursue investigative projects that the major media were neglecting. During the past 17 years, the center has produced 10 books and more than 100 reports documenting the often-sordid ties between big money and big politics.

When Lewis was asked whether the problem was based on a few bad apples, Lewis's response was:" Not unless the whole world is your orchard. That's a lot of apples, folks! More companies are restating their earnings now than at any time in U.S. history. And by the way: They have dumped hundreds of millions of dollars into the political process to weaken any laws that might exist to curb the excesses. You can't look at Wall Street without looking at Washington. They're joined at the hip.

Lewis was asked who you can trust today to tell us the truth. "It's a very short list," he says, "Everyone has been discredited. We have a situation where we don't trust our government or our capitalist system. The level of distrust right now is probably unparalleled since the 1930s.

The events of the past week have literally put people into a "panic" mode. Everyone is looking for a "life "raft" or at least a roadmap on where to go from here.

To address your concerns and to create a forum for dialogue, The Zentrepreneurism Centre is hosting a special urgent tele-summit with it's distinguished faculty facilitated by the founder of Zentrepreneurism, Allan Holender on Thursday Oct. 2nd at 6:30 p.m. pst, 7:30 p.m. mst, 9:30 p.m. est. Hi Todd,

Great post mate. If we are to truly tap into these ancient traditions, we must explore them at scientific levels and practical levels.

I have been blessed to train with Native American elders, who grounded their spirituality with basic living and survival skills.

It's one thing to talk about "the spirit that moves within all", it's a deeper experience to feel a spark "come to life" when exploring the wisdom teachings while doing a basic bow drill fire - fire by friction.

Feeling that spark come to life, releasing stored sunlight that was in the wood, noticing a shift deep inside of you...

Priceless in exploring the ways and means of daily survival, and in exploring the ways and means of ancient wisdom.

Enjoy the day,

Mr. Twenty Twenty www.wayofthescout.com

PS: I changed my name last year, to this sacred number, to help remind people about developing Inner Clarity and Vision... something the ancients had, as we are reminded by their peeking into the Quantum realm.

It is absoultely time for a re-shift to a spiritual perspective. Faith and logic are not so far apart and are necessary to each other's existence. They are subparts of each other.

Inspiring! As I read I felt buoyant with excitement, knowing this conference exists, that these people exist who are speaking and healing, that you exist and are sharing it with the wider community. I too feel the knowing poetically but I don't know the physics. Seems we're on the way to having the entirety of human history be a story of knowing the answer and spending eternity proving ourselves right. It's brilliant to feel the the possibility of reconciliation - between logic and faith - mind and soul. Shine on soul-brother...
