SoCap08: Making money with meaning
With newspapers full of stories on the economic crisis, the attendees of the Social Capitalist Markets conference in San Francisco last week, pulled their thoughts together on economic opportunities. They weren’t talking about bailouts, but about shifting the attention to social investments and social enterprises.
A luxury in these days of doom and gloom? Not really. In fact, the attendance at “SoCap08” was expected at 300, but turned up to be 600. Was that despite what’s happening in the markets, or maybe as a result of it?
In any case, at the conference center at Fort Mason, on San Francisco's northern waterfront overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and the Northern Bay, attendees of the crowded conference picked each others brains about money and meaning, where to put your money, and democratic capital.
